The NYRDC Consortium consists of twelve prominent social science research organizations: Baruch College, The City University of New York, Columbia University, Cornell University, The Federal Reserve Bank of New York, The National Bureau of Economic Research, New York University, Princeton University, The Russell Sage Foundation, the University at Albany of the State University of New York, Syracuse University, and Yale University. The NYRDC also received generous support from the National Science Foundation (grant SEC-0322902 and grant ITR-0427889) to the National Bureau of Economic Research. Membership in the NYRDC Consortium covers access fees for faculty members, graduate students, and researchers affiliated with member institutions. It is also possible to access the NYRDC on a per-project basis.
All research proposals must undergo a rigorous and extensive review process before they can be carried out at an RDC. Researchers must be able to demonstrate that projects using Census data benefit the Census Bureau, meet standards of scientific merit and feasibility, and satisfy stringent and confidentiality requirements. Proposals requesting NCHS and AHRQ data must meet criteria outlined by those agencies.
